How to Care for Juniper 'Burkii' Seedlings

How to Plant:

  • Dig a hole twice as wide and the same depth as the root ball.

  • Gently loosen the seedling roots and set in the center of the hole.

  • Backfill with well-draining soil and press gently to settle.

  • Water thoroughly after planting.

  • Apply 1–2 inches of mulch, keeping it away from the main stem to prevent rot.

Where to Plant:

  • Prefers full sun—plant in an area that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight daily.

  • Ideal for specimen plantings, hedges, or mixed borders.

  • Choose a location with well-drained soil; Junipers dislike soggy conditions.

  • Space seedlings 4 to 6 feet apart to allow for mature width.

Watering:

  • Water deeply 1–2 times per week for the first few months.

  • Reduce frequency once established; Burkii Junipers are drought-tolerant.

  • Avoid overwatering—allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings.

Maintenance:

  • Apply a light, balanced fertilizer in early spring if desired.

  • Minimal pruning needed—only trim to shape or remove damaged branches.

  • Monitor for spider mites or fungal issues in hot, humid climates.

  • Refresh mulch yearly to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
