How to Care for WinterGem Boxwood Seedlings
How to Plant:
Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep.
Gently loosen the roots and place the seedling upright in the center.
Backfill with native soil, tamping gently to remove air pockets.
Water thoroughly after planting.
Add 2 inches of mulch around the base, avoiding direct contact with the stem.
Where to Plant:
Prefers partial sun to full sun—ideally, morning sun with some afternoon shade.
Thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil.
Excellent for low hedges, borders, or foundation plantings.
Plant 2 to 3 feet apart for hedge spacing or closer for tighter designs.
Watering:
Water deeply 2–3 times per week during the first season.
Once established, water when the top inch of soil feels dry.
Avoid waterlogging—ensure proper drainage.
Maintenance:
Fertilize with a balanced, slow-release formula in early spring.
Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to shape and promote dense growth.
Watch for signs of boxwood blight or leaf miners; maintain airflow between plants.
Refresh mulch annually and keep the root zone cool and moist in summer heat.
